Time is going sooo fast! + Mice

Ok so i have an hour break between a lecture and a lab, so i thought i should catch up on my blogsing fiasco! Anyway, it's already the start of the second week of the second half of this semester. I know many of you guys at Edinburgh are not even started yet! It's crazy i know! If you havn't heard, which i'm guessing probably not, i'm doing a behavioural ecology experiment on mice for my course "behavioural ecology" lol. I'm testing whether the presence of predator odour alters the foraging behaviour of mice. So far so good although i dunno how to really analyse the data...eeek. The experiment involves me food depriving the wee things for no more than 12 hours, so i have to go i at night into the ecology building at like 9 or 10 in the evening with a swipe card. The place is well creepy. Just imagine those sorta labs with all the large windows into each room like labs in zombie movies like 28 days later etc etc. Creepy as. Also doesnt help that me angie and elen were watching creepy haunting videos and stuff on youtube beforehand so i got cole and angie to come with me! Ha ha it was funny!

Got a semester test next monday worth 20%, so i guess i should do something for that, or prepare for my computer lab or just muck about on the net and eat chocolate. Hmmm...

Bye for Now Xxx

SYDNEY!

Wow, gotta love Sydney, such a vibrant and beautiful city. Just been back for a few days and it's just really settled in that i was in such a lovely city.

Basically the trip there was rather stressful. The bus to wellington wasn't, but the airport bloody was! When me and Angie got in to check in, the guy at the desk asked us about VISAS, we both like seriously freaked out and were like "we're just going to AUSTRALIA", but seemingly you need to pay for an electronic visa, if you're staying there for more than 8 hours. (I think it's just if you're going from a neighbouring country but i could be wrong!!!) So that cost us then after that we were told we had to purchase travellers tax before we could get on the plane! Really irritating although we managed to sort everything out, just to realise that lots of the flights were getting cancelled due to fog/har! Our flight ended up being delayed by like 2 hours!

When getting into Sydney airport we were just feeling really tired and drained. However the hostel that we booked offers a free pick up service from the airport. So we waited a while after phoning and had random dudes come up to us offering their buses and we were like "NO" we're getting picked up and they tried to be like "I don't think that service goes that late" Yeah thanks for that, make us worried so we just take a ride with them. Eh no, we're not that stupid. So our guy came and dropped us off at our hostel "MAZE backpackers" It's called this cause the corridors end up acting like a giant labyrynth, where you run about and see millions of similar doors. The room was ok, a bunk with a chair and a rubbish bin. The duvets had the Aussie flag on them, which was quite cool. Then i think we just collapsed!!! Later that eve we walked down one of the main streets to the harbour where i got all excited over the harbour bridge and opera house.

The next day was where we explored some shopping centres and took to hyde park (yeah another one!), where we were freaked out by the weird Ibis birds and Angie got asked about Gambling and Personal Appearance for a weird youth TV channel. Twaz interesting though. For the evening we went to a journalist/newspaper sorta themed restaurant which had really yummy food and played good music. After that on the walk home near our hostel we heard some scuffling and shouting ahead of us. My first thought was to cross the street, but then i thought it will just be people being silly. When we reached this group of idiotic hoodlems (i sound like an old woman i know!) they started blurting out "ARE YOU ASIAN?!?" Obviously i'm not, duhh, i didn't understand what they were trying to achieve. I just kept walking briskly with Angie, then one of them brushed me aside and punched me in the face. I was soo shocked, but kept walking as i thought it was better to get away quickly than retaliate! Then Angie saw me with my hand on my face, she couldn't believe i'd been punched. Anywayz, we walked a bit further to our hostel (which is situated right in the middle of China Town) and came across a chinese restaurant thats windows had just been smashed. I'm not a detective, but i think anyone could put the two together and realise what happened! A bunch of racist twats out to just cause trouble for the sake of it! Like anywhere, there's still twats!

The punch incident the night before didn't dampen my time in Sydney, it just made me realise there's idiots and creeps wherever you go and to look after yourself! Yikes! ha ha! So if you're reading this and scared to go to Sydney now, you might as well be scared to go anywhere.. Tuesday me and Angie decided to go across the Harbour in a ferry to Taronga Zoo. It had a great view of the city and was one of the best zoo's i've been to along with Barcelona zoo. I got to pet a Kangaroo and see sleepy stoned Koalas. (due to the Eucalyptus!) I managed to charm a snake, see chimpanzees act like the big brother housemates and sexing elephants. All of which was very entertaining.

Thursday was the day for Window shopping (because we're poor students and designer stuff aint exactly gonna happen!), but still worth looking! In the evening we went to a pub recommended by the hostel called the Gaff in the gay district of sydney. Seemed kinda out of place but the staff were really friendly and ended up playing Guitar hero for the first time infront of people on a big screen. Just imagine the killers "when we were young" being murdered and you'll know how i sounded! We'd previously booked tickets the day before to see a cabaret performance at a bar called Slide. The show was called "Six Quick Chicks". We ended up there pretty early, about 7.30 because it said it started at 7 on the ticket. The place was so swish! Think GHQ but nicer. Really lovely along with confusing Unisex bathrooms.... Or maybe i just got lost! Me and Angie got some nice drinks at the bar from the rather good looking barstaff in Kilts (which seemed a little odd when in Sydney!). Angies drink was like a desert, while i just went for a few gin and tonics. The show started around 9.30 and like most cabaret acts had a fairly random beggining and to my surprise all of the Six wuick Chicks were female (to my knowledge!), which was a change. Each one came on with a totally different act. From gargling french, to singing spoofs of My favourite things and stripping on stage. The youtube links are below to see for yourself! Best night out in Sydney by far!!!!

French Gargling, How do you spell GOD?, My Fave Things

"OPERA IS MY LIFE, because i have the big boobies"

Oh no i shouldn't strip damn these shoes (Angies camera died before it got really entertaining!)

The next day i managed to catch up with my friend capri who studies Ecology back at massey in NZ. (I just found out she was heading to sydney too before the break) Was really cool to see her, so me, her and angie headed over to a 1930's themed amusement park, which was lot of fun. Which can probably seen from the photos!!!

For one day me and Angie headed out to the Blue Mountains on a tour and went up the Sky tower. Both of which were fantastic sight-seeing opportunities.

I think i'll shut up for now, SYDNEY OVERLOAD!
